labelling outdoor wiring using cable ties

Cable ties are dirt cheap and colourful. Tie them round wiring to create colour bands.

i use four colours for each power zone, then within each zone I number the blocks by how many white bands. Most blocks only have one feeder wire. Where a block has feeders to both rails, i mark the common wire with a black band.

primary power feeders are identified by the number of black bands, one for cable between the two control panels and two for feeders from the indoor power supplies. they are then numbered by white bands.

haven't worked out codes for garden lighting and turnout controls yet - hoping to find some different tie colours soon :)
