W&MR construction

The W&MR is being built as a raised vegetable garden, to aid resale value. The beds are raised using locking concrete blocks.

Service pipes are included for irrigation, lighting and track power.

A large double track loop will have 8' or 10' curves and a few crossovers so we can run lots of just about anything.

A single track will run off under the deck and into the basement via a removed window (I'll replace the glass with marine ply), onto a six-track transfer table.

Track is mostly Aristocraft brass and mostly European i.e narrow gauge, tie spacing. it will be laid direct on to a bed of gravel held between plastic garden edging. No concrete, no mortar - when we move the track comes up and it reverts to veggie garden. I may experiment with the Graden railways mag idea of tieing it to buried electrical conduit.

There will be a pond with a fountain (kept drained except when visitors come - too much maintenance otherwise), a barbeque area, and a hill with a branch line with steeper grades and tighter curves for the inevitable Shay (I must have one!). Later I may add basic switching but the idea is to run 'em, fire up the barbie and sink a few cold ones.

Sadly this area will have to double as a yard to lock up the dog that my son doesn't know he is getting yet, so the track may require some checking before we run trains.
