Wettington and Mahawatu Railway track plan

The track plan for the W&MR is a simple double loop around the outside of my enclosed garden area, circumference each about 30m.

A crossover on each side allows the double loop to also function as extended passing sidings.

here is a schematic:

The loop has an inground concrete pedestrian crossing at one end and a lift-out bridge ("Belmont") a few inches above ground (step-over-able) at the other. The inside loop has 8-foot diameter curves and the outer one 8'6". I bent easements in with my belly or knee.

A branch line runs off through a dog-proof TranzGate in the fence onto an elevated trackbed of treated pine, through a window into the basement garage and the TranzTrack staging at "Thorndon". A train can be parked on this branch during running.

Another branch winds on tight curves into the middle of the garden through Akatarawa town (where another train can be parked), then on a curved trestle across the pond and up a steep grade to nowhere, just to give Shays etc a workout.

The main junction is at Mahawatu with a siding to hold trains. The block control panel is here so that the junction turnouts can be manually set and the corresponding cabs connected, and blocks disabled to hold trains. the turnouts at Puk Bay and the branch to Akatarawa can be remotely controlled from this panel too.

The crowd congregates at Wettington because there is a station platform, the cab control panel, a wider area of paving with a table and chairs for humans, and beer.

Status:
Loop 80% done.
Mahawatu all done.
Puk Bay done.

To do:
Bridge
Track to Thorndon
Akatarawa branch
